Apply for youth access

Your first step onto the air

Free remote-radio access for UK amateur radio licence holders aged 21 or younger. Access normally ends after the month you turn 22. Every application is reviewed manually.

  1. Apply and verify your email.
  2. Under 16? A parent or person with parental responsibility leads the application and gives permission.
  3. Join a short welcome call and complete an age and licence check.
  4. Wait for XMIT’s approval before using stations or chat.

Educators and volunteers: use the educator application or contact admin@xmit.org.uk.

Licence details

Welcome call and age check

We will contact you to arrange a short video call. Under-16s attend with their parent/person with parental responsibility. Applicants aged 16–21 may bring a parent or trusted adult.

We briefly view suitable evidence of your name and date of birth, with unrelated information covered. If you lack suitable evidence or cannot use video, contact us about confirmation through a known school or youth organisation and an alternative welcome conversation.

No recording, transcription, screenshots or copies of age documents. Do not upload or email them. We record only the check method, outcome, reviewer and date.

Operating rules and privacy

We use application details to assess eligibility and administer access. Authorised XMIT administrators review them. Age-check results and parent permission are kept while the account remains open and for 90 days after closure, unless specifically preserved. Denied or never-approved inactive applications expire after 90 days. Uploaded licences are deleted after verification. See privacy and retention for the details, including backups; contact us to request correction, withdrawal or deletion. We do not publish dates of birth or parent contact details. For privacy questions, contact admin@xmit.org.uk.

No draft of this application or password is saved in this browser by XMIT.
